podere pietreta

the farmhouse: Podere Pietreta is a large stone farmhouse built in the 1700s which was lovingly and painstakingly renovated in 2000 using only original materials and with the architectural features being kept intact.

The farmhouse is situated on top of a hill in an outstandingly beautiful position, just a short distance from the ancient Via Francigena and inside the Val d’Orcia Artistic and Natural Park where life goes on in perfect harmony with nature, art, culture and tradition.

The apartments are furnished exclusively with period furniture. All the apartments feature a fireplace and independent heating, satellite television, dishwasher, waveoven, independent entrance and private outside area with garden furniture.

All bedrooms have their own bathroom with shower. The atmosphere is welcoming and marked by warmth and good taste.

The farmhouse is surrounded by two hectares of parkland featuring a scenic swimming pool (6mx12m), barbecue, car park and belvedere.

Mountain bikes and a laundry complete with all necessary equipment (washing and drying areas, steam irons, etc) are available for use by all guests.

You can also request to have breakfast (with home-made jams and products) in the farmhouse.

Thanks to a special arrangement, guests at Podere Pietreta can eat at discounted prices at a nearby first class typical restaurant (2kms from the farmhouse).

the park and panorama:  Podere Pietreta offers you the opportunity to experience an oasis of peace and tranquillity in the heart of Tuscany surrounded by the lush greenery of the Val d’Orcia.

The farmhouse is situated 550 metres above sea level and dominates the nearby hills that slope down towards the lowlands. From this position you can enjoy a truly breathtaking view of the surrounding nature, from Mount Cetona to the crags of San Casciano and from the Rocca di Celle sul Rigo to the slopes of Mount Amiata.

The charm of one of the most picturesque panoramas in Tuscany goes hand in hand with a mild and pleasant climate, favoured by the farmhouse’s sheltered position and the hundred year old oaks and evergreens that grow all around it. The park includes an olive grove, orchard, rose garden, natural terraces edged with aromatic shrubs and wide flower borders.

The scenic swimming pool is bordered by a large lawn and is elegantly equipped with pergola, sun beds and deck chairs and a distinctive shower built into the rocks.

Podere Pietreta, the park and its panorama form an ideal and exclusive place to take a break in the paradisiacal Tuscan hills in the province of Siena.

the surrounding area:  Podere Pietreta is the ideal point of departure for short trips (30/60 minutes) to some of the most attractive spots in Tuscany: Radicofani, San Quirico d’Orcia, Bagno Vignoni,  Pienza,  Sarteano, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Chiusi, Cetona, San Casciano Bagni,  Arezzo, Siena…...

In just 20 minutes you can be among the woods of Monte Amiata. Umbria is just a half-hour drive away .

Another outstanding feature is that some of the best-known thermal spa resorts - San Casciano thermal baths, the thermal pools in Sarteano,  Bagni San Filippo, the Chianciano hydro-spa centres etc. – are only about 30 minutes drive away.

And lastly there are the gently rolling Tuscan hills. The changing of the landscape with the seasons and man’s labours offers visitors to Podere Pietreta, at any time of the year, the chance to discover a highly attractive location that never stays the same. Where the hues switch from the golden yellow of summertime to the numerous shades of red and brown in autumn and then to the bright and vivid green of springtime.

Val d’Orcia is set right in the heart of Tuscany, to the south of Siena and surrounded by ranges of hills separating Lazio from Umbria.  It stretches along one of the most beautiful roads in Italy – the Roman Via Cassia – and finishes at the foot Mount Amiata.

The valley boasts a whole wealth of natural and artistic beauty. So much so that the five municipalities that make up Val d’Orcia - Castiglion d’Orcia, Pienza, Montalcino, Radicofani and San Quirico d’Orcia – have set up the Val d’Orcia Artistic, Natural and Cultural Park with the aim of ensuring active conservation of the environment and artistic and natural assets.

Val d’Orcia is also a top destination for food and wine lovers. It is situated in the middle of the area that produces Chianti and Montepulciano DOCG and is the home of pici (traditional long pasta), free-range meats, woodland mushrooms, and superb cheeses that are the result of competition between local traditions and the recent arrival of Sardinian sheep-farming to the area

A large number of historical folklore events, local food festivals and handicrafts fairs, cultural events and theatrical and musical performances are held throughout the year.

Sports lovers have only an embarrassment of choice: trekking, riding, alpine and cross-country skiing, swimming, thermal spas,  competitive fishing, car rallies….
